Album Review
Angels and Airwaves – LOVE
On Sunday, February 14th, Tom DeLonge, David Kennedy, Matt Wachter and Atom Willard release their third album as a band entitled LOVE. Which I guess is why they choose to release it on Valentines Day.  The album had been delayed from the original release date of Christmas Day 2009 due to DeLonge’s summer stint with Blink 182.
The album begins with the instrumental track Et Ducit Mundum Per Luce, which translates into And Lead the Word by Light. The song slowly builds up with light picking on the guitar and a consistent drum beat cumulating into the first song, The Flight of Apollo. This song is actually more similar in structure to Boxcar Racer than any other AVA song. Don’t get me wrong we still have the over dubbed guitars and the endless delay effects. But this album is different it is so much harder and much more rock driven, it’s harder, it almost seems like we are seeing the Tom Delonge of 2003, if that makes any sense to anyone. In fact track 10 is actually entitled Letters to God, Part II. The original Letters to God appeared on the Boxcar Racer album, which David Kennedy was also a part of.
The songs flow from one track to another, and if it wasn’t for the track listings and names, I wouldn’t know when one song ends and another one begins. I don’t have a problem with this its just when listening to the album as a whole you actually don’t know when the track ends.
Lyrically DeLonge stays right in his AVA comfort zone. The lyrics all about love, space and epic themes, in fact the fifth track is titled Epic Holiday.  These themes appear on all of AVA’s albums and shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who is picking up this album.
Overall this album is a huge leap beyond I-Empire and would highly recommend picking it up. Oh and did I mention that AVA is giving it away for free on their website?! No?! well then you have nothing to lose by downloading this album. In fact if you decide to give AVA money for this album, including just one cent you will get a bonus track that the kids who didn’t give anymore won’t receive. Isn’t it exciting to be reward for being a fan of a band?
