New Year, New Musical Tastes?

by Jillian on January 27, 2010

Without a doubt, I am most connected to music because of its sentimental value. I can match any song to a particular time/place/event/person/memory without applying an real effort into doing so. Thus, I have an immense attachment to music. Around the holidays, this seems to me more prevalent. I guess because I’m visiting with so many different people and there is music playing just about everywhere I go, the memories are all coming back to me but new ones are constantly developing.

2009 can be easily outlined for me in terms of music. For each major portion of the year I have an extremely specific soundtrack. I am sometimes unbearably aware of what a large role music played in my life the past year. So, with that said, I’ve began to make a conscious effort to embrace new music this year. I feel like that’s always one of my typical New Year’s resolutions that I end up not following through with, but this time around, I am much more sincere. The last year alone has opened my eyes to so much in terms of music that I did not know was out there, so I am assuming there is only more where that came from and now I am going to put in the effort to go look for it.

I plan to share any new discoveries with ReviewArtists.com readers and also hope that you will submit your own to us as well.

When you really think about it, there are few times when you feel better than when you finally get your hands on a new album you’ve been waiting to hear. Well, although we may not yet know the artists so we haven’t anticipated their newest release, the same goes for basically all records. New, uncharted territory is exciting, and this is territory that can only hope to be discovered. So, as we near the close of the first month of 2010, I invite you on this sort of musical enhancement journey with me. I anticipate some surprise and that I will shock myself with the things I realize I enjoy (I already laugh at myself when I leave foolish, catchy hip-hop songs playing on my car radio).
