Ok. It’s official – the weatherman lied!
Now I’ve tried not to make reference to the weather for the last couple of posts – don’t want to be responsible for spreading the misconception that is the British weather, but we were promised a ‘barbecue’ summer and it’s turned into a washout. So much so that when I was at Chagstock I wished I’d brought gloves!
Nonetheless, ever the optomist I shall not be defeated by a few thousand raindrops and when the weather fails to deliver, I instead chose music to create the perfect indoor summer time mood. And that inevitably results in electronica!
For me ‘Sunchyme’ by Dario G is the ultimate summer track. Yes, I’ll admit it’s old-school, but classics never die, and I guarantee it’ll get more than one airing this summer.
But why?
I often hear DJ’s decree that X is the ‘sound of summer’ or ‘is guaranteed to make the sunshine’ (FYI for any radio presenters out there, there is nothing more likely to make it rain than that phrase!), but what is it that makes a song so suited to sunny weather?
Well Radio 1′s Jo Whiley has taken up the challenge… starting this week she has decided to play ” three summertime tunes every morning to brighten up your day.” The idea debuted last year and the results of the poll can be found here.
Looking through the list the songs chosen fall into two distinct categories. On one hand are those tracks which made the charts last summer, and on the other are the absolute classics which have been around for years – all of which have a pumping bassline and just a hint of the end-of-school disco about them. Because that’s the joy of a summer soundtrack, it brings back memories of childhood summers where it wouldn’t dare rain on your birthday!
So for me there is only one track to leave you with today – Dario G -Sunchyme.
Get your glowsticks ready!
What about you though? Which track describes your summer? Please, let me know!
Thanks
